Hundreds of historic sewing machines, accessory parts and objects from related fields offer an exciting journey through the development of technology, tailoring and aesthetics of the last 200 years.
An invention that changed society and the industry
In the middle of the 18th century, the mechanical sewing machine has been the first technical mass product in industrial history. An enormous manufacturing area has developed and has brought new technical knowledge and huge profits.
The
exhibition shows the historic and technical development from the end of the 18th century to modern times and gives an overview of the different areas of application: from simple household model to highly complex special machine – from different countries, from tool to status symbol, from industrial machine to toy – always remaining a mechanic piece of art.
